course provides the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a
comprehensive health assessment utilizing the skills of history taking, and
patient inspection. This course will provide the application of nursing
knowledge and skills on physical, psychological, socio-cultural aspects to
assess the patient’s needs and state of health to identify deviations from the
norm.

•A health assessment is a plan of care
that identifies the specific needs of a person and how those needs will be
addressed by the healthcare system or skilled nursing facility. It is the
evaluation of the health status by performing a physical exam after taking a
health history.
•Comprehensive or complete the health assessment usually begins with obtaining a thorough health
history and physical exam.
•A thorough and skilled assessment allows
the nurse, to obtain descriptions about the patient’s symptoms, how the symptoms
developed, and a process to discover any associated physical findings that will
aid in the development of differential diagnoses.
